DEIB Award

As part of ISAZ’s initiative to encourage the attendance and meaningful inclusion of scholars from different backgrounds, and identities at the conference, promoting robust dialogue and enhancing the conference learning experience for all attendees, we offer Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) awards to support attendance at ISAZ conferences.


Accepting applications starting December 1.


Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must meet the below criteria to be eligible for consideration for the award.

  1. Identify as a member of an underrepresented group. This includes groups based on racial/ethnic identification, nationality, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, class and socioeconomic status, religious affiliation, political beliefs, disability or special needs
  2. Open to students, postdocs, faculty or research scientist, or professionals working on human interaction with animals from any scholarly perspective
  3. Currently enrolled in, or recent (within one year) graduate of, an educational institution including a post graduate certificate program; or currently employed in an institution or organization
  4. Must have submitted an abstract and agreed to present and/or have contributed as an author if they receive the award
  5. Must be willing to be present at the ISAZ conference awards ceremony and accept the award in person
  6. Preference will be given to applicants who have not received a previous award from ISAZ

Please submit a personal statement (1 page single spaced) which addresses the following:

  1. In what ways do your identities or experiences help to meet the goal of the award?
  2. How will this award fit into your career path in human-animal interaction scholarship and your future goals?
  3. Please provide statement of need (i.e., current position/employment, sources of funding for attendance, employment search)
  4. What do you hope to get out of attending the ISAZ conference? What does your participation offer to enhance the conference?

Recipients will be considered based on their general need.

*Award winners are only eligible to win one award per conference. If an individual is selected to win an award and has applied for more than one award, they will be removed from the application pool for all other awards.
